What's one more?

Well, we are adding one more to our family!
NO, sillies, it is not another person! It is a food allergy.
As if Tom's allergies to corn, sulfites, MSG; Lord Humbles allergies to all food coloring, sulfites, MSG; Girly Wirly's dairy (casein, rennet, whey, lactose) aren't enough, we are now adding wheat.
It appears that Little Bit cannot handle wheat. Every time she eats something with wheat in it, she breaks out in a rash on her face and bum. She just screams miserably.
The other allergies were somewhat easy for me to handle. For example, whenever I make baked pasta, I make Girly Wirly's with soy cheese. We buy organic or sulfur free dried fruit. We make most things from scratch so that I can be sure that everyone can eat it.
But this newest allergy has me shaking in my boots. I love bread, pasta, cake, etc. How do I replace them? The Dr. keeps saying that she is too young to have an allergy, but he isn't the one hearing her scream like a banshee because her bum is raw.

Check out GlutenFree Girl (blog/website). My friend discovered she had celiac disease when she was 52!! She'd had it all her life. There are a ton of neat resources out there.

You can still make baked goods, you just use rice, almond and coconut flours instead. It won't be near as scary as you think. :0)

Hello,
My son is allergic to soy, peanuts, eggs, wheat and dairy. I started a website www.spewdfree.com to help others that suffer from food allergies. SPEWD Free has recipes that are free of soy, peanuts, eggs, wheat and dairy and a blog.
I also suggest Food For Life Brown Rice Bread (my son's favorite). I hope it helps.
Thanks,
Heather

Oh, no. sorry to hear about the newest allergy. All we have is dairy, which isn't too bad. I know there are a lot of good recipes out there. Christy was always good at making yummy wheat-free goodies. Good luck!

I was also going to suggest Celiacs as well :(
My son David was diagnosed at 3yrs old.
My suggestion... get a separate bread machine for her, as you don't want to cook breads with wheat or gluten in the same machine. I made my son all sorts of breads and rolls.
PS You can also find LOTS of wheat-free foods now at grocery stores.

Oh no! How awful! Poor baby.

I have 2 kids on the gluten-free/casein free diet (and no dairy) and it's not easy, but it is possible (even during Christmas)
I have been putting some wheat free recipes up on my recipe blog and there are a lot of great sites out there with great recipes and products.
Good luck!
